Did you know?
C.S. Lewis wrote about infections!
Coronavirus is clearly a “bad infection.” It’s proving difficult and often devastating to the hundreds of thousands who have been infected. It has turned everyday life upside down. We trust you’re taking steps to avoid catching it, or if you’ve caught it, we hope you’re beating it and will emerge healthy.
C. S. Lewis’s book “Mere Christianity” speaks of a different kind of infection—a good infection!
From his book:
"Good things as well as bad, you know, are caught by a kind of infection. If you want to get warm you must stand near the fire: if you want to be wet you must get into the water. If you want joy, power, peace, eternal life, you must get close to, or even into, the thing that has them."
One chapter of the book is titled “The Good Infection”, and in it, Lewis speaks of “getting close to Christ.”
"If we share in this kind of life we also shall be sons of God. ... He came to this world and became a man in order to spread to other men the kind of life He has—by what I call ‘good infection’. Every Christian is to become a little Christ. The whole purpose of becoming a Christian is simply nothing else."
So, in times of “bad infection,” we must share (or pay close attention to) the good news of the Savior who conquered death and passes on eternal life: the "ultimate good infection”.
